90’s Music was fun and new! Download, Play, Burn MP3s!
In the 1990’s Y2K loomed, the Cold War ended, the first Gulf War was fought and won, and the Internet was born.
Music from the 90’s was littered with one-hit wonders, boy bands, and a general mix of diversified artists. Music in the 90’s was predominately Rap, Pop, and Alternative Rock. Nothing about 90’s music really showed a trend. And most of the artists from that decade never had another hit.
Of the many one-hit wonders, a few stood out in the 90’s. Vanilla Ice will never be forgotten with his hit Ice Ice Baby. Everyone was learning the super simple Macarena. Even cartoon character, Bart Simpson had a song called Doing the Bartman.
Boy bands were popular in 90’s music. Some of the biggest were: Boyz IIMen, Backstreet Boys, 98 Degrees and N’Sync. No one can forget Hanson whose biggest hit was probably Mmm Bop. Music of the 90’s introduced alternative (sometimes called Grunge) music which featured lyrics that seem to speak to teens and young adults. Its message was predominately negative and its popularity waned, making way for happy tunes like Hootie and the Blowfish’s “I Only Wanna Be With You.” Brittany Spears and Christina Aguilera were regular chart toppers.
