Music of the 70’s had something for everyone. It was dominated by odd mix of disco, hard rock, and popular rock. You could dance to disco, rock out to heavy metal, and get lost in the lyrics of progressive/popular rock. Music in the 70’s introduced America to the talents of Simon & Garfunkel, The Jackson 5, The Carpenters, David Bowie, Elton John, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin. Heavy Metal became popular with bands like KISS, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, and Judas Priest.
Some of the chart toppers of music from the 70’s include: Maggie May by Rod Stewart, Lost Without Your Love by Bread, and We’ve Only Just Begun by The Carpenters. Captain and Tennille won a Grammy in 1975 for Record of the Year Music with the hit, Love Will Keep Us Together. Song of the Year went to Send In The Clowns by Judy Collins. Natalie Cole sang This Will Be and won the Grammy for Best New Artist.
70’s music was immortalized by the movie Saturday Night Fever. The soundtrack for Saturday Night Fever won the Grammy in 1978 for Album of the Year.
