Do you remember when color TV first came out? Did you do “The Twist?” Or was it free love and peace, man? How did you fair during the British Invasion?
If you have any idea what we’re talking about, you know the 60’s and probably a lot about its music. Music from the 60’s is still alive today. It’s the decade of music that never seems to go out of style. Who doesn’t remember, or hasn’t heard of, My Girl by The Temptations or Pretty Woman by Roy Orbison and The Candymen? What about Hang on Sloopy? You sang it, “Hang on Soupy,” didn’t you? Didn’t we all?
Chubby Checker brought in music of the 60’s with “Let’s Do The Twist.” Not long after, the surf culture took over 60’s music, inspiring songs from the Beach Boys. Elvis was king until 4 Beatles from Britain dethroned him. The sound of music in the 60’s started slowly changing and by decade’s end the big hit makers were Motown’s, The Supremes and The temptations, as well as newcomers like Johnny Cash and Peter, Paul and Mary. Even today, it’s not hard to find 60’s music still playing on the radio.
