Poodle skirts, sock hops, and Rock ‘n Roll. Music of the 50’s is synonymous with the stereotypical teenybopper. If you were alive during that decade, you know that music in the 50’s was more than Rock ‘n Roll. Music changed more in those ten years than any other decade.
Music from the 50’s started with Big Band, moved to Doo Wop, and finally transformed to Rock ‘n Roll. Artist such as Perry Como and Patti Page ushered in the decade and popular performers like Bobby Darrin, The Platters, and The Everly Brothers brought the 50’s to a close.
50’s music also made Dick Clark a star with the hit television show American Bandstand. It was a daily show that highlighted new and popular music that teenagers danced to. American Bandstand’s first song played (on the national edition) was Whole Lotta of Shaking Goin’ On by 50’s hit-maker, Jerry Lee Lewis.
Music in the 50’s included hits like, Blueberry Hill by Fats Domino, Ain’t That a Shame by Pat Boone, and Smoke Gets in Your Eyes by The Platters. The 1950’s is iconic in music, fashion, and American life. It gave birth to Rock ‘n Roll and gave parents a new reason to worry.
